The latest of the solo EP's from the Sons Phonetic camp comes from the lyrical beast Mouse Hughes. Mouse dropped his 5 track EP Jewels Of The Trade in May and as expected he delivers razor sharp pin point accuracy in his lacing of all beats produced again by Mook except for track 4 produced by Noize Thievery, the Belfast based beatmaker.
Released the end of 2013, producer and DJ, Moschops joined up with emcee Costello to bring out this joint album CosMos. All production is carried out by Moschops with Costello on vocals and with some top features from some the nations best emcees including Lethal Dialect, Sons Phonetic, 4Real and many more.
Tommy Tyler of Sons Phonetic dropped his solo EP The Golden Section back before the Summer and again is another tightly produced and well orchestrated 5 track slot from the Waterford emcee. Bloodshed Records Inc today officialy release the single in memory of Dean Johnson who was murdered in a case of mistaken identity last August. Dean's brother Andrew is a co-owner of Bloodshed Records Inc and so it was only fitting to put out a track in his brother's memory.
Clondalkin native Tall-Order released his much anticipated debut album The Tree Of Life And Death in December and to great acclaim, reaching the number 1 spot on the iTunes HipHop charts knocking Eminem's, The Marshall Mathers EP II off the top spot.
The third solo EP installment from the Sons Phonetic crew comes from Kav, titled Perception Tunnel, this 5 track EP holds in stature to the level we've been hearing and expecting from the Sons Phonetic maestros. With the usual dark, contrasted production from Mook, Kav spits solid, straight and timed bars delivered with relaxed precision.
Back in September of last year Artane native Siyo dropped his latest solo album The Real Simon Young. For me this album put a whole new dimension to the Dublin emcee with him really delivering a solid, well crafted piece of work and in my own opinion I felt he totally upped his craftmanship as a songwriter and emcee choosing some top beats and collabs to really match his position, style and deliveries.
The Dublin based collective The Animators released their 12 track EP Sketch back in April. With freestyles, outtakes and snippets from the guys in the mix you also get 5 or 6 good solid tracks in there also. Take special heed to the opening track Flow 1.0 and my own personal favourite Mo Fiyah for a taste of what these guys can unleash both lyrically and productionwise when they want to. A good solid piece of HipHop for your ears.
With the Sons Phonetic crew tieing us over with solo EP's from all 5 emcees in the group, Sammy Dozens was first to drop with his EP Lucid Dream and what a way to begin the takeover once again of Irish HipHop. Lucid Dream is a 5 track EP featuring the single Ready For War but don't let that fool you into thinking the rest are fillers. 5 tracks of lush, rich HipHop with Sammy lacing the poetry to production from Mook, Danny Diggs and Sammy himself.
Skin T has just released his first solo EP Mastermind and its up for download with an optional donation to download. For his first release it definitely shows potential but the production on it is of top quality. I'm sure with some more dedication his flow will tighten and I look forward to hearing some future releases. You can download Mastermind EP here http://skin1.bandcamp.com/
