Next week from July 5th - 8th see's Limerick's first HipHop Festival, Make A Move which is taking place in and around Limerick city.

It will also showcase work from all around Ireland and abroad with a special focus on the work of the emerging talent and skill from Limerick. The Make A Move team are committed to nurturing and showcasing the creative talents and skills of a field of arts that is HipHop inspired, and so this ensures the festival will have something for everyone from visual art to discussion forums and live music.

Even though this is the Festivals debut, have listed Make A Move in the top ten of Ireland's best Summer Festivals for this year, no small accomplishment by any means!!

Although the Festival starts on the Thursday, there are workshops all week from Monday to Friday at different slots from 11am to 4pm. These include ;

-Street Dance Workshops in Garryowen, Southill, Moyross and Weston.

-Street Art Workshops in LCGA.

-A HipHop Workshop in Learning Hub on Friday with Voice.

The festival features performances and appearances from some top class Irish and International artists/acts including Hot 8 Brass Band(New Orleans), DJ P.U.D.G.E.(LA), Voice(New Orleans), BBoy Tommy Guns(New York) also Irish HipHop performances from Rí Rá & DJ Mek(Scary Eire), Lethal Dialect, Temper-Mental MissElayneous also DJ Stevie G, Icarus Rising and many more BBoys, Street Artists, DJ's and MC's.

Thursday 5th July

8pm Jim Carroll(Irish Times) hosts a special banter Irish HipHop – Got To Get Up To Get Down featuring Paul Tarpey, Kieran Nolan( Temper-Mental MissElayneous(Finglas MC), Mynameisjohn(Limerick DJ/Producer)

9.30pm Live Irish HipHop showcase with Lethal Dialect and Temper-Mental MissElayneous

9.30pm Hot 8 Brass Band New Orleans plus a2df & Lenny Location : Dolans Warehouse, Dock Road, Limerick Admission €15   Friday 6th July 2pm-4pm Panel discussion on graffiti in Limerick. Panel includes academics, street artists and community activists. Location : Daghdha Church, St. Johns Square, Limerick. Admission Free 5pm-7pm Masterclass with BBoy Tommy Guns(New York). BBoy Tommy Guns masterclass will be a unique chance to learn new techniques and concepts. It will focus on using the body to its full potential. Admission €20 6pm-8pm Masterclass with Poppin John( Poppin John from Soulbotics Krew out of USA presents his first ever masterclass in Ireland. This will open your mind to new approaches to the art of body-popping. It will introduce you to his new approaches to techniques like waving, isolations, tutting and robotic movement. Various Youth Performance Exhibitions of art from various youth agencies and over 30 Street Artists will work on large scale pieces ranging in style from contemporary murals to traditional graffiti. Admission Free 8-10pm Screenings of B+(Mochilla) films followed by Q&A with director, hosted by Peter Curtin (Spin Southwest) Location : Daghdha Studio Space, St. Johns Square, Limerick. Admission €5   Sunday 8th July 1pm Breakdancing Battle and showcases featuring Judges BBoy Tommy Guns(Renegades, New York) plus two more t.b.c. Format 3v3 BBoys. Showcases from ; Flawless(Limerick), Panic(Limerick), Limerockers Cru(Limerick), Recession Squad(Waterford), Undercurrent(Limerick), Flava Floors(Cork), Tommy Guns(Renegades, New York), Poppin John Soulbotics LXD(Texas). Location : Daghdha Church, St. Johns Square, Limerick. Admission €5 4-5pm True Blood Soldierz perform on special outdoor stage along with host of breakdancers. Location : Beside King Johns Castle, Convent Street, Limerick. Admission Free 6.30pm Hip Hop Karaoke night with a number of Limerick celebrities doing prepared numbers with paddy soul food barbeque plus live PA. Location : Blind Pig, 31 Thomas Street, Limerick. Admission €5   Make A Move has come about from the joined forces of Shane Curtin who is based within the music scene, Catherine O'Halloran known for her place within the Street Art community and Baz Burke who brings the BBoy edge to it all. They debated the idea and then decided to combine the elements which led to this behemoth culmination that is.. Make A Move. Also organising the festival is Monica Spencer, Katie Verling and Tom Prendergast an all organisers are from and based in Limerick. From the international lineup straight to the calibre of Irish artists, all I can say is hats off to to all involved. Obviously my own flavour is our homegrown talent, and to get to see Scary Eire members Rí Rá & DJ Mek on the lineup is a personal highlight, as always with Lethal Dialect we're guaranteed an electrifying crowd engulfed performance.
